Between these two, T5 Gen3 and DT1770 Pro, I need help with advise based on my listening preference:
- I prefer neutral flat sparkly sonic characteristic (like Etymotic ER4S or AKG K701 kind of sparkly)
- Non overpowering bass volume, but deep and impactful and well extended
- Not picky with soundstage size, but imaging must be good
- Excellent sound isolation and seal

So the 4 items listed above are the criteria I deem as make or break factor to decide between the two of them. This will be my first ever Beyerdynamic I will ever own and hope to keep it at just one (planning to get one each for the top ranged closed-back of the usual suspects brands)

Thanks

I have the DT1770. It is nice for a closed pair of cans. It needs a real amp and the separation feels extreme to me. But I don't have any other closed cans (I have some Fostex but people say they are not really closed) so I have nothing to compare it to.

To my ears the signature is neutralish with no annoying peaks or dips. It is certainly much flatter than Fostex TR-X00 which for me are generally unlistenable without EQ. But Fostex are much faster. The Beyer sounds slow in comparison.

Bass can get a little boomy with crappy recordings. They seal well. People next to me can't hear anything when I listen at normal volumes. Isolation is ok. I can hear when the music is not loud.

I think the DT1770s are a nice all around headphone for people who want a closed set of cans. I think it could use an amp or source with crossfeed.

Hey thanks, sound like the DT1770 Pro is how I expected it to behave. Now my aim is TOTL for Beyerdynamic on this closed-back section and only T5 stand higher than DT770, but what kind of scares me is the fact that there's indication that T5 may be not as sparkly as DT1770......

I don't know. The T5 3rd gen seems aimed at portable devices and over the past years the consensus seems to have been the higher impedance Beyers sound better than the lower impedance ones. There were mixed reviews regarding the T5, there is a long thread here. I think they were mostly positive though.
