This is offtopic but is it just me or has Headroom lowered the value rating of DT 990's from 4.5 to 4 and raised DT 770's from 4 (or 4.5?) up to 5? As I recall DT 880's were only "five star"-beyers there before. And it seems like it happened today! Just wondering...

And I also wonder why the price for DT990 was less than the 880's before, but now are more? Hmmmmmm....

The HD280's were 5-star, now down to 4-star -- it seems they re-vamped the whole ratings and prices this past week or so.

I have been considering to get a pair of the '03's or the '05's DT 880's. If I will get the '05 I'm interested of the 32 Ohm version also. So couple of questions...

1. So what is the sonic difference between 32 and 250 Ohm versions? Jan Meier says on his website that it is "very small indeed" but that doesn't really answer fully to the question. The phones would be stick into a AV-receiver (Pioneer VSX-D2011S). As a university student I can't afford an additional ampfication. (Thank God if even the DT' 880's

2. I have also a rare opportunity to get my hands on the '03's with Cardas cable upgrade for 240€ (about 308$). People here on the forum have adviced me to get those with Cardas. It is said to strengthen the lower/mids section. But that thing happens also between the '03's and '05's with stock cables. So what do you think, is the gap between '03's with Cardas and '05's with stock greater than between '05's and '03's with stocks?

Thanks.

Well, I MUCH prefer the 05 DT880 to the 03. And, based on your using a receiver, you need the 32 ohm DT880, not the 250. I actually preferred the 32 ohm DT770 (05) to the 250 ohm, but the difference was indeed small.

Ok, but my question is still the same: what is the difference between those 32 and 250 ohm versions? I'm not assuming that the difference would be exactly the same with 32 and 250 ohm DT 880's, but I think there could be some similarities.

Once again, couple of questions...

1. Not having enough enthusiasm I won't search that thread where somebody said something about somebody who was working for beyerdynamic and who implied that CEO of beyerdynamic was not entirely happy with the new DT 990 and there would be some updating following in the near or far future. So, bad memory, false or true?

2. Will the leather headband of the '03 DT 880's fit to the '05's? And how hard it is to remove the plastic headband of the '05's? Do you have to cut it open or take the phones to pieces?

I felt that the 32 ohm versions were ever so slightly warmer sounding, which I liked.

I've just ordered a 770pro-80 off ebay!
cant wait till it gets here
I originally ordered a k81dj from a music store in canada but they said they were out of stock even tho their site listed it as in stock...

I was told that 770 was the ultimate bass phones so i went for this one.

As for amp, i own a go-vibe V5 low gain version

will this be enough or should i get it changed to a high gain version?

thank you!
