Just got the Beyerdynamic DT 880 Pro. Now I have ~$600 to spend on an amp. Ideally, it would be portable (planes, often) and optical (movies, often). Would there be anything better than the HeadRoom Portable Micro Amp/DAC? Those requirement can be waived under dire circumstances, only the price is set in stone.

The only other headphones I have had were Bose Triports and ER-6i's.

I once owned a Micro Amp with 2006 Desktop Module but I have no idea what the current models sound like...better I imagine??

I loved what the Micro did for my 250 Ohm DT-880, especially using crossfeed. I sold my Micro only because I didn't like the battery life.

There are so many good amps these days that your head will explode trying to decide. Good luck.

I have the Micro Stack, but I don't use it as a portable set-up. Battery life isn't that great. It works great as a desktop set-up, though!

I don't use my DT-880 as a portable set of cans often. When I am wandering around with them, my iPod Nano's lineout is usually fed into my Hornet.

the 2007 Portable MicroAmp is suppose to get around 20 hours of battery life. the sound quality is suppose to be on par with the 2006 MicroAmp w/ Desktop Module. I have yet to see any reviews on it. I would like to have the new one meself. but for now I am gonna shoot for the Ultra Micro or maybe a Desktop amp. if portablity was not an issue for ya I would suggest the 2007 Standard Micro and then acquire the extra $200 you would need to get the DAC too.

I was initially pondering this very model but opted out due to me finding a little fact regarding that 20hrs of battery life. It seems they have cut back on output power and class A bias in order to provide more battery life. No thanks, I'll just get the Desktop instead.
