I was happy with my HD 580's until I listened to my friend's HD 650's. The additional amount of bass was very appealing, although I'm certainly no bass head. If I can get the DT990 250ohm for $160, would that get me to where I want? I mainly classical, pop, soundtracks, and electronic (progressive house if you want to be specific).

Do you and your friend use the same source (DAC & Amp) to drive headphones?
I believe the Senn HD580, HD600 & HD650 use the same driver?

There is also a revision with all drivers they were originally black later editions and currently are silver in color. In my experience the silver is superior.
To OP DT990 which I used very briefly had much more bass impact than the HD650 but IMO the HD650 was a better headphone.
