So I noticed there are two version of the DT990, the consumer and Pro line. The Consumer seems to be around $90-$100 more expensive.

My question is simple, is the Consumer line the 2005 model or are they both the 2005 model? I know the Consumer line has less tension in the band as well

Consumer
Pro

if you simply used the "search function" - your answer would have been immediate. I know, because I've posted answers to at least one thread which was the same as one you just opened.

BTW - you posted a headphone question to wrong forum.

You want the Consumer line phone (which is the current 2005 model).
The best version is the 600 ohm version of it which can only be ordered via Beyerdynamic's "Manufacture" page. Treble is smoother and bass has more authority. The "but" is you need a strong amp for it.

All of the dt770-880-990 headbands are easily bendable, so orig. factory tension is NOT a factor - you simply bend by hand to whatever fitting that makes you happy...........the other difference between pro vs. consumer line is Pro has a coiled cable - which is a PITA for most non-comercial settings (more prone to tangling).

So I did post in the wrong forum...hopefully a mod will move it...

The Consumer line is the 2005 model but the Pro line is not?

Also, I don't quite get why higher impedance means better sound quality?

btw, I did try searching...but I guess I used the wrong keywords
