Hello,

I'm in the market for an amp/dac combo to use with my Beyerdynamic DT880 250 ohm. My budget is small.
The products I'm deciding between at the moment are:
Fiio E17
Maverick Audio TubeMagic D1 Plus
AudioEngine D1
Shange SG200

Are there any products in this budget range that I have missed? If not, which of the listed would do the best job with the DT880s?

Thanks

I will do some research on that. Thanks for the suggestion

Indeed I'll own a Vali soon, I'll let you know how it sounds! My vali should b here in under a week, and I do own a DT 880

That would be great. Thanks. I'm think I'm leaning in that direction anyways over the Maverick because it can be upgradeable over time and I've heard the D1 takes a long time to ship.

Well now the Aune T1 looks pretty nice and would be less expensive

Aune Less Expensive than the Modi? THe DT 880 Pro 250 needs an amplifier, the on board in the Aune T1 is not really optimal. IF you can affored an amp go Modi Vali IF you cannot then the T1 might be a good all in one for the time being, but again, the DT 880 would sound better out of the Modi Vali combo

Oh really? I wasn't aware the amp was lacking. The only reason I included it was because of the reviewers thoughts here: http://www.headfonia.com/schitty-magni-and-modi/2/

Wow... open foot insert Mouth! 1Watt, good job on the Tube dac...

still even the guys at hadfonia noticed the Magni added a bit of extra sound stage an detail retention. Shame on me for doubting the T1's on board amp, non the less having a nicer Tube Amp like the Vali should be nice... if you REALLY wanted you could use the Vali with the T1 :O for uber tube magic. The Vali is from impressions a VERY CLEAN TUbe Amp, which is what I want. There are some users who REALLY love the DT 880 with the T1 and a Hybrid Tube amplifier.

Still I'd try trh SChiit Modi Vali stack first, as it has a warrenty. IF you don't find the combo warm enough then swap out the modi for a T1, but give the Schiit STack at least 10 SOLID days of listen, the amps come with a 15 day grace period so use as much of it as u can to get a REAL feel for the combo. A SOLID week, is enough for me with new gear. And my SOLID week I mean about 21+ hours, usually 3 a day max. And ONLY listen to ur new gear. Again you want to get used to how it sounds before you start comparing it.

THat said, both Dacs are worth while, I still feel the addition of a Vali will only make things better :3

Yes, I will still probably still go with the Vali and Modi combo. Thanks for all the info.

Also, don't mean to derail the topic, but I noticed you had previously owned the Ath-A900x. What's your opinion of those vs the DT 880s? I know as they are closed their soundstage and imaging won't be as impressive, however I'd like some nice closed clans that have a similar sound to the DT 880s.

Actually, for a closed DT 880 I REALLY recommend the ATH W1000x, it's the headphone closed headphone I like the most. It's... very simmilar but alittle different from the DT 880

The Ath A900x is more like the DT 990, slighty exxagerted bass and treble. IF you can afford it, go for the W1000x, then Mod it. Otherwise if you can't I found the Sound Magic HP 100s to be the closet to the DT 880, I enjoyed them very much and for $200 new, I think they are a steal

That said, the ATH A900x is a nice closed compliment to the DT 880, the W1000x is a whole new monster compared to the A900x.

Still again, for a closed DT 880 go W1000x or HP 100. Aditionally, I'm actually getting the Schiit Vali for my W1000x :3

The W1000x are outside my range for now, but I'll definitely keep them in mind as I upgrade in the future. Looks like I'll be going with the HP100.

Thanks again for all the info.

Yea, do so. I really liked the HP 100. And if your lucky you can find a fully modded W1000x for about the same price as new here on head fi, definatly save up for one!
