In a recent e-mail I sent to Beyerdynamic inquiring about their Headphone Amplifer (A1), I was informed that they are discontinuing production of the 600 ohm version of the DT880 headphones.

Currently, they only have 250 of this configuration left.

Figured I would mention in case someone was considering purchasing this model. I don't know if they have any similar plans for the DT990

Not a total surprise. The price of the 600 ohm version was a bit steep, and the 250 ohm version doesn't exactly sound bad.

Noooooooooooo!!!!!! Seriously? How soon?
I was planning on buying it end of next year! Crap! That is really bad news for me.

I'm sooo sad right now. I really like the DT880. I've just bought a pair of expensive cans. I can't afford the DT880 600ohm until next year.

There may be some confusion here - I don't know because I have my dt880 and 990/600's

...and Darths. O.K., a Beyerhead!
The A1 is not specific to any dt880 - but, certainly the Headzone Home has been introduced specific to dt770 and also dt880.......and not all younger generation Germans are as proficient in English as presumed. Before everyone assumes this post to be correct - an effort should be made to verify the correctness of the statement. The Beyer rep. may have misconstued whatever question(s) posed by Oak3x. Some of their reps are much better in handling English than some of their other reps.. Anyway, one of the banes of my existance is that I don't want to reduce my inventory by parting with any of my Beyers.

I'm curious also. It seems curious that they would "discontinue production' of an item that was only available through custom order...

I mean, numbers were already pretty small, right? In fact, it would've been hard to consider these to be "in production" in the first place...

But at least I've got mine! (Evil Laugh...)

they are renewing their shopping site and manufacture also, you can't choose dt880 or dt990 with leather earpads anymore, you must buy them separately.
but i see the 600ohm option is not changed.

Yeah, I noticed the change in structure too, but where to get the leather pads? I was simply looking around for it there, but I can't seem to find it?

leather pads are with gel pads in aviation/aviation accessories/ear pads

The changes re earpads is appropriate and helpful to customers (IMO). The genuine Leather earpads are a good choice for dt770, and not to dt880, dt990...................whereas 600 ohm is the best choice for those two models I just mentioned - if the new owners will be amping them appropriately.

I doubt the 600 ohm market is big enough yet. 250/300 ohms is a nice compromise, as most mid-fi gear can drive phones in that range reasonably well.

I'm sure they know exactly how often they've sold 600 ohm models and would make them standard products if they sold well enough.
