Hey,

I'm currently modding my brand new 708B amp with my HD595 cans. I love these phones really comfortable and lovely, especially for movies and even rock or folk. However for rap/hip hop and gaming it's not the best. So I've heard all about the DT770, and i think i'd really like it, lots of bass, nice highs, sounds perfect to compliment my hd595 so i can swap one for the other.

however i'm really confused about versions. I am right in thinking there are two body shapes the 2005 and pre2005 shapes. I have heard the 2005 ones are not as bassy, and the older ones more so. Also there is a 600ohm, 250ohm and 80ohm version. I've heard that the 80ohm version is the most bassy and nicest - is this beacause the people using them were not amping them up? What would be best with an amp?

Also what is the DT770pro and non pro? Is this just the cable (springy or not) ?

Personally I'm really tempted by the 80ohm but i'm really not in a rush to buy so i'd like to know wether that or the 250ohm version is better in pre 2005 models and if the 2005 model is better/worst.

I've tried the search btw but it's quite diffcult to find information about it.

ok i've read that the pro and non pro is just the headband (cable also?)

Also i've heard the DT-150 250ohm sound better than the DT770's with lack of style. Can anyone comfirm that?

Still, the model of choice (for dt770) remains the 2003 dt770/80 Pro. - whether you plan to have them Darthed - or not. The mids will be somewhat recessed (corrected via Darthing)......but other versions are worse. I have used 32 ohm 2005 drivers in 2003 that worked even better for me when "Darthed"...........but usually use Darthbeyers esentially for Mahler and some Jazz. You MUST think of both your sources and specific recordings. However, I'm confident that whatever you do - they will beat the crap out of your HD595

i have searched but its really hard to get a nice answer. Plus the problem is always slightly different.

So the DT770/80 - 2003 is the best version amped? I'm not interested in darthing for the obvious costs, but i might try the DT-150 anyone else tried the 150 and felt it was better than the DT770/80?

and actually i really like the 595, they are so comfortable and great for movies, i have also modded them abit to make the bass abit stronger by adding some foam after the drivers. They sound really nice know, but I need some closed cans and would like something very bass heavy for hip hop/rap.

I just received my 770 pro 80s last night, and so far I love the sound. Such deep and rich bass. Surprisingly, they sound fantastic with my portable players (see sig) with a reasonable volume of 50-70% and flat EQ.

you want the aforementioned dt770pro/80. The most common and the cheapest choice. Make sure you don't dismiss them at first; mine changed a lot over the break-in period.

thanks for all the replies, more questions :P

I've heard of the rp-21's and they seem to be a little like the DT770, can anyone give me a comparison of the two?

I really need a pair of closed cans cause there is lots of annoying noise seeping through my Senn's 595 which isn't nice from my flatmates cause they sound so awesome through my Xiang Sheng 708B

I bought the 770/80 version a couple of years back, and I believe they are most commonly recommended version. I've been using them un-amped, to my ears they sound quite nice, but I'm thinking of buying an affordable amp for them (max 200 euros or 300 bucks

hey sikki, while i'm far from a great audiophile, i have the xiang sheng 708B and its a really nice (so far) tube amp. I bought it because of the modding possibilities which to me make it a fun purchase
check this thread :

but the little dot II and II+ seem to be highly recommended in that kind of price range. When I bought it i regreted not getting a Solid state amp, like an RA-1 (there were cheap clones on ebay in a kit form which could have been fun to make too), but the tube sound is really nice, as the well as the general cool factor.

there is also the reloop RH3500 is that a clone of the rp-21 ? etiher way i think i'll get the DT770/80 cause i'll regret it if I dont.

I prefer the DT770/80 over the RP21. The RP21's are decent, but they had a chalky coloration to the treble that bothered me, and they aren't NEARLY as comfortable as the DT770/80. The 770/80's are better cans all around IMO.

That's cool. I believe for rap/hip-hop DT770/80 is a sure bet. Talking about audiophiles, I'm using my Beyers unamped

Anyway, a very good choice - I'm glad if I was of any use!
