Hey guys. For a while now I have been thinking about buying a new pair of headphones for gaming. My conclusion was go for Sennheiser Game One as they are open back and have a mic which is convenient for me. However, I saw the DT 990 Pro Limited Edition all black for 140$ on Amazon which makes me wonder which one should I go for? I mainly play FPS games like Overwatch and CS GO. Also I read somewhere that the Limited Edition's ear pads are different from stock ones which affects sound quality (idk if it is true or not). P.S. I am no audiophile so going for either of them is an upgrade for me.

If you are going to mainly use it for gaming I would probably go for the game one for the convenience of the mic. Also the game one's will be easier to drive from your computer than the DT990's.

DT990 really need to be used with a decent headphone amplifier.
What sources or DAC/amp would you use with the headphones?

Probably ASUS XONAR U7

U7 head amp is not that powerful.

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Z sound card has a more powerful headphone amplifier.

The thing is my PCIe slot is used for my GPU so I cant use the sound card. Which DAC would you recommend pairing the headphones with?

Sennheiser HD558 headphones, plus modmic.
Xonar U7 can easily drive the 50-Ohm HD558.

Buy used HD558 and remove the black rubber tape from inside the cups of the HD558, makes them more open, more like the HD598.

Despite all that. How different are DT 990 Pro and HD 598?

The DT990 have a strong bass/treble, where as the HD598 would be more neutral.

What about gaming? Like sound stage and stuff.

Both are consider good FPS gaming headphones.
DT990 might be a little better, but you have to spend more for an amplifier to drive them well.
What is your over all sound card/DAC/amp, headphone budget?

Considering the DT 990 Pro Limited Edition is 140$ I can afford up to 100$ for an amp

Ok, over all budget is roughly $240.
So maybe a Bravo Audio Ocean tube (hybrid) headphone amplifier, $80, to go with the 250-Ohm DT990 headphones.
