Hey everyone,

I've decided on purchasing either: beyerdynamic DT 770 or beyerdynamic DT 880 (I'm open to other suggestions of course).

I'm looking for something with punchy bass. I like the deep lows for rap, hip hop, R&B, etc., yet I listen to classical also - something with distinct, but not over-bearing highs. So yes, this is a tough criteria to fulfill.

The DT770 showed extremely high capablity of bass on the frequency response chart, yet is the DT880 better all around with more linear sound??Does anyone have any recommendations on either of these two? Pros and cons?

Also, I need to buy an amp. Whats a good beginner amp, which is resonably priced and well suited for me (and these headphones). My budget is $300 and down on the amp ($300 is even very...very high).

Thanks for any help. I sincerely appreciate it!!

I own a pair of DT770-80s, with a GoVibe V6 amp (currently on special for US$60 on the Go-Vibe site, so a very very good deal). I listen to predominantly drumnbass, so obviously deep bass is important to me as well. I am very happy with the combination, considering I paid around £100 all up for the headphones and the amp.

The 880s don't have the bass of the 770s. If bass is the primary want it's the 770s for you. Darths would be better but $$.

Talk about two different extremes on Bass. The 770's are just bass bass BASS slam all day and night. The 880's are a bit lean on bass, but very balanced.

I would say the 770's for you between the two, but maybe consider the 990's as well?

Don't miss the Meier Audio's amplifiers, they are well-known have best synergy with Beyerdynamic headphones.

Thanks for the responses!

I'll look into the amps suggested.

How do the DT990 compare with the DT770 and DT880?

I realize DT770 is very bass oriented, but would they work well with movies/threatre??

Pro version has more clamping force to the head and they come with coiled cables, other than that no difference
