For their price the DT231s sound very good. Unfortunately isolation is nearly non existant.

They don't isolate that much compared to other closed cans I've used. While they are great headphones, I don't think they'd be practical for applications that require significant isolation (like mowing the lawn).

wats your price range? maybe you should go for IEMs, since they are like ear plugs. well, they are..

If you're looking for the kind of isolation needed to block out lawn mower or aircraft noise levels, forget about over-the-ear 'phones. They just don't cut it, and I'm speaking from experience. The DT231 is particularly bad at isolation, even though they're great sounding cans.

Your best best would be an IEM such as the Shure E2c or Etymotic ER6i. Both can be found for close to the price of the Beyers. I use the ER6i and the isolation it provides using the tri flange tips is phenomenal. There's no way an over-the-ear can can stack up.
