Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO - Beyer's open-back mastering headphone

With the 1990s? No amp/dac at the moment. Just straight out the Mac. I was using a Burson HA-160 with the LCD-2s and other gear in the past. Do you know if the Drop+THX AAA 789 would be a good fit to drive these?
Budget ?

Trying to start at $1000 between amp/dac. The Emotiva A-100 looks promising and could be a great fit if I buy another pair of headphones. I've been out of the game for a bit so appreciate the help and any suggestions for the DT-1990.

Im very happy with my rme adi 2 along with my 1990 Very clean and precise and gives you the opportunity to use the 1990 like a chameleon with different settings if you are into tweaking settings

I can just support that, the 1990 + ADI-2 DAC is a very good combination!

The 789 is best when used Balanced, and the 1990 aren't. If you want a THX amp with SE output as good as balanced, then look at the SMSL SP200. I use the Schiit Asgard 3 which is an excellent pairing, with the SMSL M300 MKII DAC (AK4497) + FX Audio Tube-01 tube preamp, with Sylvania JAN-CHS-6AK5 tubes.

I know this isn’t driving them as a desktop would but well I was doing some listening while cooking dinner and I am pretty happy.

I'd imagine a nice red wine would drive them beautifully, no need for a desktop amp.

Yes, a good drink can be the best part of audio gear sometimes

I am running the 1990s with dx7-pro and feliks audio echo. Both do very well, although the echo brings a nice sweetness to these headphones.

This is my best combo; exaSound e32 DAC with DT 1990 Pro (Analytical pads). The e32 DAC handily beat the Benchmark DAC3 L DAC that I had in-house for a couple of weeks. The built-in headphone amp is very clean and shockingly powerful. I normally have the level set for -20 to -30dB. I connected my Hafler HA15 to the e32 XLR outputs using premium professional interconnects and could not tell which amp was playing.

Since we seem to be sharing setup photos:

HP-setup.jpg

Here we have the Creative G6 as the 7.1 Virtualizer (as needed) -toslink-> SMSL M300 MKII DAC (AK4497) - FX Audio Tube-01 tube preamp with a set of Sylvania JAN-CHS-6AK5 tubes -> Schiit Asgard 3 -> DT-1990 Pro with Dekoni Elite Hybrids (and my EQ to bring them to A pad sound signature)

Glass table from Amazon, Elven Archer Bust from Etsy

New pads!

These are the elite fenestrated from dekoni.
So far I like them. The sound signature it's pretty much stock with a tiny reduction on highs and a bit of soundstage gain. Ever so slightly :p

hi, the right driver on my dt1990 is failing, can you guys confirm they have the same driver as the dt1770? I want to replace them myself, but the TESLA drivers on beyer's website are listed only for the dt1770 and the Amiron home... if that's the same driver I can get them and replace them right away
