Visit dekoni's site to read more about their new 'crap'. They will explain it a lot better than I can. From a consumers perspective the choice pads are softer and feel more like the real 'crap'.

Not interested in plastic parading as leather. I'm sure Dekoni makes nice leather pads though.

Hey, what do you guys think of the Aune X1s Pro for these headphones?

It’s a nice combo. I emphasizes the the cans’s strengths like the powerful lows while not mushing the highs. Nice voices. A little bit on the warm side, and being a closed phone the soundstage is not too wide (but that is hardly a fault of the amp.) I like it to shut out the world around me.

I have an Aune B1S which is a class A amp but I don't have a pair of 1770s. Anybody know if that one has enough guts? Quite a nice little amp but I'm not sure it has enough power.

The DT1770s are my entry into the "real" headphones world, after wanting to spend less than half than that on my first pair. But oh well. I'm driving them with a Fiio K5 Pro, which takes the optical audio signal from my TV (I use them for console gaming as well). Still looking for a solution when using them with my iPad (USB-C adapter, BT adapter…)

They leak quite a bit with the velours pads, which I prefer over the pleather ones. What Dekoni pads would be best if I want to reduce leakage but maintain the sound signature as much as possible?

I've purchased my DT1770s from Amazon.co.uk. They were sold as "Brand New".
However, one of the earpads is marked with a black marker on its inner side.
Did anyone else receive a marked earpad with their DT1770 or was I sent a used unit?

The black mark is nothing to worry about. Maybe it is from the pad maker and was already on the vinyl before the pads where made. The pads themself look legit.

I'd like to get a Beyerdynamic headphone that supports being balanced driven - I have a FiiO M15 and Topping A90 and both provide the best output via balanced. My DT880 250 ohm needs High Gain and basically 50% output to get to "enjoyable" levels from both amps 3.5mm SE outputs. I'm concerned the 600 ohm models I am interested in - DT990 / DT880 won't be driven well enough without moving to balanced driven outputs, or of course other amplifiers with stronger SE output.

I think I've seen conversions for the DT1770 / DT1990 to balanced in my research - I've got no saved links, any pointers or reviews on the results of those conversions?

Perhaps the 600 ohm DT990 / DT880 aren't needed, if this article's comparisons hold true - although perhaps the 600ohm samples weren't experienced with adequate driven power?

Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro headphones feel and sound like a contender for the price

Perhaps I should skip the 600ohm DT880 / DT990 and jump to the DT1770 / DT1990? I'd like both closed and open headphones for different environments. I have a DT770 16 ohm that is easily driven and at times more awesome than the DT880 250ohm, but then again the DT880 250 ohm is the headphone I use the most - swapping back and forth between it and a SendyAudio Aiva, both very enjoyable headphones.

Then there's the T1v2 which would allow balanced out of the box - and I don't mind highs - as I've found with the DT880 I needed to remove the thick black foam inserts to undull them - I really enjoy the well driven DT880 - the M15 "Over the Ear headphones" mode on High Gain or the A90 in High Gain out the XLR headphone output haven't allowed any of the potential shrillness of any headphone or IEM to be exhibited.

I'm beginning to think most of the complaints about Beyerdynamic shrill highs is all due to inadequately matched amplification.

So what should I get next? A balanced modded DT 1770 / DT 1990, a 600ohm DT990 / DT880, or jump all the way to a T1v2 - and is a T1v3 close to release?

You need a soldering iron
Safe bet is the T1 from a respectable shop that allows you to try them out for a month before you need to decide if you want to send them back or not.
Modding DT770/880/990 to be balanced is really easy if you are willing to void the warranty, have a steady hand and the correct tools.

Let's see how big the difference gonna be.

Defentiv yes, they are deeper so you gain more stage, they are comfy and they reduce the treble a littlebit, so it is just right for me.

Thanks for the reply! I had the DT1770 for quite a while and like it a lot, personally having little to no problem with the treble, but wanted to try an open back, as I have never had one. After purchasing the 1990 I read quite a few user reviews that mentioned its highs being fatiguing. Do you find that the Elite Velours help, in this regard? Probably going to order a pair today.
