Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions

I think you would like it based on the way you EQ’d the 1770. The bass is less forward and doesn’t resonate at all, it’s tight and punchy. The mids are very balanced, perhaps a little more emphasis on lower mids is what I’m hearing which I really like because notes have so much weight on this headphone. The upper mids are a little reduced but I don’t mind this either as they don’t sound fatiguing. Treble is good in that it doesn’t sound fatiguing and is probably the calmest amongst Beyer’s headphones. Their detail isn’t lacking in any way, it’s actually quite good, but it could be a little better for the price. I put it on the level of the HD6XX and ER4XR, but the 177X beats them in soundstage and imaging. And the 177X still has a little more treble energy. Aside from that they’re rather warm in tonality. In fact I’d say they’re even warmer than the HD6XX.

Honestly, I can’t find anything seriously wrong with them and they’re a very enjoyable listen. That’s not saying they’re perfect, but they’re the best closed back I’ve tried so far and tick a lot of boxes for me.
I may have to give them a consideration then. Also contemplating the Shure SRH1540 and Sennheiser HD 660's. Can get all 3 for sub £400. Good sub bass is important, but i want clear detail and immerse sound stage too. I realise that open-backs are better for the latter, but i will use them at home and in public, so open backed aren't really an option. Opinions are welcome

I owned the SRH1540 for a brief time as well. I ended up returning it. It has too much bass, which bleeds into the mids. The mids are quite recessed, and the treble is rolled off. I did not like that headphone at all.

Hello,
anybody tried already converting the DT1770 into the DT177X Sound signature wize? Especially any damping or pad recommendations to lower the highs and make them more musical to enjoy longer listening sessions.

After reading through some posts here, i feel like the sound signature of this headphone would suit my tastes. Just one question, has anyone here used these paired with the FiiO Q5? I'll post the specs below for those that understand the technical side more than myself. I have to say the info that i have highlighted gives me pause, knowing that i couldn't use the balanced output of the amp. If anyone has used this combination successfully, or can do the maths, and give me an honest assessment id be more than grateful.

That just indicates you won't get maximum power from higher impedance headphones. I wouldn't get too caught up in specs, to be honest. So long as it gives a few mW into 250 ohms (which is almost certainly does) it'll power them just fine.

Ok, thanks for that I appreciate it a lot. Ultimately if I do get the 1770's (finding the impulse hard to resist!) , I would also consider adding the AM5 amp module to my Q5 arsenal. As you can see it would most definitely give the Beyers the required juice.

I'll answer my own question as I have both the DT1770 and DT770 pro 80 Ohms in my possession.

The bass on the DT1770 is quite a bit elevated above what the DT770 presents. There is a lot more midbass slam on the DT1770, which gives kick drums a bit more POW! The sub bass is also elevated more on the DT1770, but not as much as mid bass to my ears.

As a side note, these are on sale from Beyerdynamics.com for $350.

A week back they were the equivalent to £279 on the Beyerdynamic US site! Compared to £365 on the UK one.. But they don't ship to the UK! :-[ They are currently going for approximately £340 on Amazon which i think is a good price still. I'm still really tempted, keeping my options open. Would like to hear if anyone has had any experience with these paired with a FiiO Q5.

I listened 1770. Disgusting headphones compared to my 770 32. Listened on CEntrance DACportable SP. Maybe the amplifying part of my combine isn't enough for them? Got rid of them and now enjoy my 770 32.
