Beyerdynamic DT 150: Bloody Brilliant!

I can't really agree with that personally, especially considering the HD 600 tops the DT 150 in all those aspects on my system. The bigger question is what headphone sounds better on what system.

We aren't that far apart system-wise , you have the Lyr 2 , I have the Valhalla 2 , I might be the biggest 6XX fan , that's why I have both the 650s and 600s but I can't deny that the 150 is a higher fidelity headphone.

The Lyr 2 sounds very different than the Valhalla 2, I also have different tubes and it changes the sound rather profoundly when I tube roll. The stock tubes on my Lyr 2 are noticeably worse than my other two sets of tubes, the stock tubes sound unrefined and grainy in comparison. The best sounding headphones in terms of fidelity on my system are the K712 and Q701.

Of course , Beyer/Senns love OTL voltage , AKGs love SS/Hybrid OI  and Current , too bad I don't the have time and interest to amp my 702s but I might get a Heed CanAm or Canalot.

That is true. A lot comes down to the system and synergy. AKGs like a lot of current and voltage. The whole reason I got the Lyr 2 is because I wanted an amp that can power basically anything but with the tube sound and ability to roll tubes. I didn't really want to deal too much with more future amps regardless of what direction I went in terms of flagships. The problem with the K7xx is they are picky on top of being power hungry, making them a difficult headphone to deal with. I'm not necessarily saying the HD 600 or K712 is better than the DT 150, just what is the best comes down to the system.

As much as I like my DT150, I wouldn't rate them anywhere as high as my home or my portable system. It is a bit of a bargain, which doesn't really do anything wrong but it is nothing special either.

Funny how HD600 is portrayed as some kind of wannabe headphone, I like the HD600 more than the DT150, HD650 and even HD700. Just personal preferences in play here.

By the way, I currently have a fiio e10k. I do plan on updating, but I don't intend to get tube amps, so would it really be smart to get the HD 600 over the DT 150?

In my situation DT150 certainly sounds better on tubes rather than ss amps. But I didn't have HD600 to compare, so couldn't comment on that part...

Yep. HD600 and DT-150 are both more than good heaphones and complete each other, in my point of view. You don't need to go in the tube/otl/dark side to have coo... pleasure and good quality with both headphones.

With the Asgard 2 (which is solid state) HD600 is my favorite out of all my cans including the DT 150.

The HD 600 sounds quite good on solid state amps. I personally prefer the HD 600 on both tubes and SS amps over the DT 150, more due to sound signature and comfort preference, refinement wise I find the two quite comparable. My personal favorite headphone is the K712 which sounds more refined and honestly a league above the HD 600, DT 150, and Q701 to my ears.
