PSA for Beyer lovers and wannabe lovers. B&H Photo here in NY has the two TOTL Beyers for great prices:

2005 DT990's for only $179 plus shipping. These are the new one's folks. I ordered these myself after I crosschecked the manufacturer ID numbers on Beyerdynamic's website. I waited to get them before posting just to make sure. I can now confirm that mfr #481807 are the new ones because they just arrived today and I am looking at them (burning in) as I type.

B&H charges shipping on these (plus local tax for NYCer's) as these dropship directly from Beyerdynamic, so my total was just over two bills. I can't understand why other vendors are charging twice as much for these *shrug*.

Also, the 2003 DT880's just dropped in price to only $179 with FREE shipping. These are the older version from just prior to the recent revamp. But that's still a great price for a nice headphone.

Interestingly they are also starting to take orders for the 2005 DT880 for $279 - considerably more than the new DT990's *shrug again*.

Just ordered! I was really wanting to try them but kept convincing myself not to, mostly due to price. Thanks for the tip! I hope this will be a nice candidate to recable balanced along with my W5000. If they sound as good as the 05 880 or better, I will be a very happy camper.

BTW how long did it take for them to arrive? I take it they were "special order" when you ordered them as well.

They're on ebay right now for mid $100s--$155 as I recall. Seller has 'em in original boxes and has a lot of 15. Don't know if they're the newest, but check it out

what you've seen is probably the Pre-2005/2006 version dt990....

which is an older version of current dt990.

If not, please share the link with us

not sure here, are you talking about what year models ?

It seems to me that the 2005 DT880 is at $179, right ? the site at BH does not seem to specify the year. I can tell from the pic that it is not the 2006 model, but pics are not always updated.

on the BH site, they seem to carry both Pre-2005/2006 DT880 AND 2005/2006 DT880...

Did you receive the 32 or 250 ohm model?

now, I might be crazy but may be not entirely !

from headphones.com (and I remember threads about it):

beyerdynamic DT 880
Re-designed for '06! The best there is for a lively, open-sounding listen...Maybe the best there is, period.

yeah well headroom sometimes makes mistakes too...

besides, Headroom put their new 2005 dt990 and titled is as dt990 Pro version....which is also wrong

certainly they do mistakes too !

and on the other hand at the beyerdynamic site there is only mention of the "2005 edition", which based upon the picture is the most recent model.
Oh well.

I'm sooooo confused. The picture on B&H seems to be of a Pro, yes?
What's the difference between the DT990 Pro and the new DT990 (not-Pro)? Is one superior to the other? Or are they comparable but different?

Are there reasons to prefer the 880?
