Hi All,

Just got my set of Beyerdynamic 250 DT headphones. They are the 250 ohms version and they sound great. However, I'm not sure if I'm getting the full potential out of them. They're for my portable setup and I'm using a Sony D465 portable cd player to power it. According to Vertigo from the archives the headphone amp on my cd player has 15mw worth of power? Should I get a portable amp to accompany it?
Any advice is deeply appreciated.

Thanks
Jason

Short answer - yes.

The 250-80s benefit from a headphone amp, therefore the 250-250 being higher impedance would more than likely benefit even more from a headphone amp.

Contact JMT (a member here) for pricing and info on his portable amps which would definately fit the bill

I'm very interested in the DT 250-250s. Can anyone tell me if a 2W amp @ 8 ohms is enough power for these babies?

jaskin buddy...15mw is unfortunately not enough to drive 250ohms! 15mw could do justice to 100ohms at most (the 465 drives my Ety 4Bs quite easily, and yes that is drive them properly, not just make them go loud). But the 465 started gasping the last time I tried to make them power Sennheiser HD580/600s.

Shucks. It does sound that I'm not hearing it's full potential. but they're sooo comfy!!!
