I am very very satisfied with my HD 595s, but either myself or a good friend of mine may be looking to buy another pair of phones. Price range between 150-300$ max on a pair. Are beyer's any more comfortable than Grado's? They sure do look it but ive never had a pair before. Ive heard good things about the Dt880's so im curious as to what others oppinions are on the subject

Are the DT880s overly fat in the bass area?

baseball bats with nails sticking out of it are more comfy than grados for the first month or so till your ears get used to it. For about that time I could only wear my grados for an hour or so, then have a break for about the same amount of time. Now I can wear them for any amount of time with little to no discomfort. Dude for real, you need to get and audition headphones for yourself. I don't have a care and live 120 miles from a good audio store so I have to take the greyhound to portland when I am choosing headphones but it is well worth it. I would have been very sad if I had chosen senns over grados based on opinion laden reviews. grado, beyer and senn make great sounding cans but ultimatly our tastes make up our minds for us. Sorry if I sound naggy or preachy, I don't mean to be, aaron.

I wore my new SR80s with the stock pads for a little over five hours yesterday, including an hour or so walking around in the rain with a hat under 'em (yes, I'm of the opinion that nice things are meant to be used ;>), and only started to feel a little bit of ear-clampy syndrome at the end. Do I have odd ears? Or just a high pain threshold?

There are lots of good audio stores in Boston. I did a quick google and got this link:
http://www.bostonaudiosociety.org/links7.htm There are many others I'm sure. Heck, we even had a couple of awesome ones in little old Manchester, NH.

Call some of these and ask questions. If they have something you want to listen to go, listen and ask more questions. You'll find a good one easily enough. You'll also run into many of those "Newbury Chic" shops that will try to push the latest Bang & Olufsen crap on you as well.

Have fun!

Little J040: what music do you listen to? Don't expect to like the DT880s for a lot of rock/metal. And Grados aren't that uncomfortable if you make some vwaps for them.
