Realize the price difference but wondered what others thought of sound signature whwn comparing these two cans since ive heard good soundstage, high end ans solid bass connected to both. Will be using a PA2V2 amp to power which phone I decide to get. thanks Matt

K240s are one of the sloppiest of the mid-fi cans... so I cant imagine the DT990 beging a step down in that regard. Theyre differrent price points too. I consider the K240s more of an entry level can, like the MS1 and MDRV6.

Note Ive never owned the DT990, I did own its closed sibling for about a year.

I'd take the K240S over the DT990(Pro/250) any day - midrange on the latter is just too drowned out for my taste.

I'd take the DT990 (250 or 600 ohm) over the K240S any day - the bass on the latter is just way to sloppy to tolerate (not to mention the DT990 is more comfortable, and much more well-built).

It's all about which sacrifice you're willing to make. The K240S is a midrange headphone, the highs are quite rolled off, and the bass is sloppy like a DJ headphone (and soft, without hard impact). The DT990 has a much cleaner bass that hits harder, and much more extended and detailed treble, the trade-off is that the midrange is not as prominent as the K240S'. The Beyer also has a much more open soundstage, likely due to the more accurate treble.

Well, after 11 years... nobody could tell exactly which is the better piece ? :D
I have same question now.. I was thinking to get a 240 mk2 while having a 990 pro already. Is it worth or is a step down ?
