Heard these were better than the older 2005 DT880's. Anyone know? Listen to allot of metal/techno industrial music. I know about the older dt990 2005 models that sound pretty crappy (from what I read everywhere).. Or should I just go for the Senns 650's for my type of music. I have a Darkvoice 332 amp so I can drive any headphone. So if anyone has any experience with these headphones, let me know. Torn between senns 650 and the Beyer 2006 dt990.

I have both 05 DT880/990, and none of them is crappy. From my view, I think that dt990 is more dependant on source and amp than dt880, otherwise they can be harsh.

DT880 is a really smooth phone to my ears, never fatiguing.

They do have there different areas. DT990 can be more fun, but require the recording to be excellent otherwise it might get harsh. DT880 also require good recordings, but it is still smoother than dt990.

DT880 is more natural on most recordings. It sound much more alike real world than dt990 on nearly everything. This also makes it more laid back than dt990, but only in direct comparison.

If I could have only one, even for metal, it would be dt880. A really great allrounder.
