First off I'd like to give a big Thank You to everyone who helped me along my way to this.

Alright, I got the DT880's from a Head-Fi member named nelamvr6, he was great to work with and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again.

Then soon after I bought the Minibox-E from Head-Direct.

I've been using it with either my CD players Line-out or the Headphone-out of my Toshiba Gigabeat S (what's surprising is the Gigabeat sounds better

)

Also before you take my opinions into consideration be forewarned that my only other experience with higher-end audio is my speaker setup : Two Aiwa and Two Vintage Bose speakers (before they sucked) and my E4c's.

That being said the DT880's and the Minibox-E combination are amazing, breathtaking really.

Beyerdynamic DT880

When using the DT880's before I got the amp they were basically a really comfortable and slightly better sounding E4c without the isolation. That has changed drastically, these phones change dramatically with amping.

The sound has opened up, soundstage and stereo imaging have become much more apparent. The low end has tightened up and is more neutral (compared to being recessed unamped) and the Highs and upper mids have gotten a sharp (not peaky) quality to them now, not over-emphasized more like accurate, they are less muffled then they were before.

The sound overall is very neutral and nothing sticks out or is pushed back in the recording. To imagine it, think of the musicians standing in a row instead of single file in front of you, nothing is covered up, it's separated and easily distinguishable in the track.

Minibox-E

This is one big sounding, small amp!

This amp, now on its 60th hour, is a GREAT first amp. $154 shipped gets you a rechargeable, metal, great-sounding, small amp that comes with a pretty decent IC (Silver-Plated copper). I enjoy this amp a lot and it gets better with every hour. It also meshes with the DT880's very well, every complaint I had with them was addressed when plugged into this amp, with outstanding results.

One of the, if not THE top contender for the $150 price-range.

I'll probably get around to writing up a better review when the amp fully burns-in, in another 140 hours.

Here's some more pics for you guys to enjoy (oh and 56K, time to get broadband

Excellent review!

I had never heard of the Minibox-E amp, it sounds like a real bargain! I'm looking forward to reading about your impressions once it's broken in.

At least you know that the 880's are fully run-in!

The Minibox-E is great, check out the 31 amp review, they all agreed that it beat the RSA SR-71.

Ya, the upside of buying used, no burning-in wait time
