Hi guys, I've had a pair of DT-770's for quite a while now and recently the drivers (in particular the right, but the left as well) have developed a slight crackle at low frequencies.. or harmonics at higher frequencies.. Or just sometimes in general. I know that I'll probably find out that it's a driver issue; however I'm hoping that you guys will say it's a cable problem.

The crackle resembles the sound of static electricity..

The reason I think it might be the cable is due to the length + my computer chair... Which often runs it over on a tile floor. Yes yes I know, I need to be more careful...And I HAVE been, but it still happens all the time. I'm interested in taking them apart to try and figure this issue out, but I need advice first from you guys.

Any advice you can give would be great (think it's a driver / cable issue) (how to take them apart). Thanks.

A lot of times this is caused by a piece of debris (such as a stray hair) on the driver.

Is this with any music that you play?

I thought that my DT880s had a crackle when I listened to some music. It really bugged me so I tried a different encoding of the same song, and it had no crackle, and nice clean detail. I then came to realize that my original recording was pretty bad, but that I had never noticed it so clearly before (with other headphones and speakers).

Well, it's actually with any recording or sine sweep. If I do a sine sweep with harmonics it shows up.

I cleaned out both drivers and it sounds a little better. At really high volumes there is still a slight crackle in the right driver..but it's not noticeable at lower volumes. I'm just worried that it's causing some other distortion that I can't "test" for.
