Oh well, I thought I had made up my mind to get a pair of Senn 590s to use with my computer setup at work since I wouldn't need an amp. I've heard them and thought they sounded really good.

After looking around a bit more, the DT-250s piqued my interest since they are around the same price and come highly recommended on these boards and headphone.com.

Anyone have experience with both of these that can give me a comparison in sound and comfort.

My only concern now with the 590 is sound isolation - this is in an office where there's usually not too much noise or music, but I'm wondering if open cans are the best choice for me. I do need to hear the phone ring and listen for someone calling my name. My current cans (Sony MDR CD750) are closed but fatiguing. Are the DT250-80s comfortable for several hours of use?

Thanks!

The 590's have no isolation at all; everyone else will be able to hear what you're listening to.

That's tricky, he need to hear others and others should not hear him

DT 250-80s are a different headphone sound. They have a punchier tighter bass, are slightly more aggressive in the mids (very forward) but they do have rolled off highs (just slightly) which makes them really good to use with crappy sources such as average PC sound cards.

You won't be able to hear the phone ring with HD590s unless it's in the same room, I have open phones and the phone is two doors down and I can't hear it ring with the HD600 at a reasonable volume. If I turn the 600s down any more my computer's 8 fans start to overpower the sound completely.

DT250s are probably a more balanced sounding phone than HD590s but I do not have personal experience so take this with a grain of salt; however the DT250-80 has been said to somewhat mimic the tonal balance of the HD600.

Cheers,
Geek

Thanks for the replys.

I noticed that the 250-80s are around the same weight as the 590s without cords but come with a coiled cord. Is the coiled cord any heaver than a non-coiled cord?

And has anybody had any problems with that huge cord connector on the 250-80s? Looks rather long in the photo.

I guess I don't have much to lose if I order them from Headroom and give them a try...

Oh, I don't know.
I've seen people say they think K271's sound better than the dt250-80's and I think the hd590's sound better than the k271's.

The 590's to me sound like a cheaper headphone than what they really cost. Grainy, murky and incoherent all at once, even when compared against the stock-cabled 580's or 600's (I am using the 600's with the Cardas upgrade cable right now).

dt250-80's soundstage is ordinary
nothing to wow about.. but certainly not bad for closed can standard.
tonal balance, beyer wins it for me. Bass is also better, IMO.
I've tried hd590
don;t like it at all.. bright.. material like very plasticky..
if I want to go for sennheiser, I would go for hd600 and nothing less...

Somewhat., the 250 also mimic 600's sound.. but with sligthly less detail. So that might be a good thing. The beyer is just slightly darker in tonal balance but I like this very much.
Get it!!!
