For a friend.

It's a very close call. The Senn seems to have the better package but I'd be interested to see what you think.

No comparison with the V700 please.

I didn't hear the Beyer DT231 properly at the WoH tour (the DT231 seemed underpowered there), but I did hear the Senn HD212 Pro. I was unimpressed with that 'phone - but if that 'phone is among the best-sounding closed headphones for under $50US, it makes me wonder just how craptacular most other sub-$50 closed headphones really are.

For that price maybe something from the koss line? All my phones used to be koss. :p

Do they make a closed portable?

Well I have the r80's (I gave them to my brother). They are closed and lighter then my 250-80's but they are kind of big. I couldn't tell you how they sound vs. those other models but I bet it would sound better because koss markets more to value phones then high end.. hrmm I wonder if I will get flamed. :p

Biggie.

edit: ohh I thought those phones were under $50 msrp, but they are over while the koss are at $50.. so uh I would take my comments with a grain of salt hehe.
