Afraid i'm a true amateur in this area needing expert help.
I've a new ipod 3G, only ever used for gym/running, I'm not getting enough volume/ sound quality and looking for new earphones.(background noise at the gym a particular problem)

Firstly, are new earphones the answer, ie will they make a significant difference?

also please recommend which to buy to meet the following;

budget around $100, (less if possible)
stay in place when running/ sweating etc
significant increase in volume/ quality to standard ipod plugs.

the budget reflects the fact they'll only ever be used 3-4 hours per week but if someone wants to explain in laymens terms how much better the quality will be by spending more i'm open to suggestion

Thanks

You probably just need more isolation.

In Ear Monitors

I'm a layman myself, and that thread has lots of information for a total newbie. I used ibuds before when I lost my then current earphones, and they sounded like speakers playing in a box, horribly muffled.

ibuds don't have good seal, and leaks in alot of sound.
Crossroads Mylar X3i would be a great choice if you don't want to spend much but see what good iems sound like.

ibuds don't seal.. its not an IEM.. more like a earbud..haha

anyways.. from my past experiences, IEM's and gyms don't mix for aerobic exercises. (running or any kind of fast paced movement) Since they usually slip out or your seal breaks.

unless someone tells me there are those kind of IEM's..

my best bet would go for something like a clip on.. Koss KSC75

or if you like buds.. yuin pk2's

IEM won't be my top of the list for exercises, not because they don't seal well enough, but because of the severe bone conduction and microphonics that gonna annoy the hell out of you. I don't think there is an easy fix for your problem.
