What's your price-range? Suggestions can range from the KSC75 at $15 to MS1 at $100 to the HD595 at $180 and up. Depending on specific factors like portability, isolation, style and musical taste your best choice may differ, but these three will be your main suggestions.

X2 except MS1: they don't play well classical music.
HD595s are great all rounders, of course if you don't need portability: 3 meters cable and jack plug makes them transportable at best.

X3 on the HD595s. Not the best for portability, but it definitely is a good all around can.

Price range is critical.

Have you looked at the Denon AH-D2000?

$400 will buy you a nice headphone/amp setup...

Triple-driver IEMs sound great unamped. I highly recommend Shure E500/SE530 for portable use, but I use them at home too, because they are the best sounding headphones I have. Westone UM3 and UE Triple.fis are also very nice though - even better than the Shures maybe...

HD555 are incredibly boring

I thought they had good highs, good bass and were pretty forward - anything but boring here. Soundstage too flat, but you can't have everything at this price point. I really like the MS1s for value too, but surely nobody would recommend these as 'all-rounders'?

Hey! I,..uh...might!

Other than the most exciting of the rockinest of the rock and the biggest of the classicals, they ain't bad!

If a person wanted an all around set of cans and liked their presentation on the forward side and prefered to be in the middle of the action, then MS-1 would be one good one to consider.
