Do you guys have any recommendations for a successor to my hd 598? I was looking at the 6xx as they are based on the 650s and are back on sale. But I just thought I would check to see what you guys recommend and if the 6xx are worth buying.
Thanks

Do you have an amp? I think the HD6XX would be a nice upgrade, with the proper amplification. Another excellent option would be an HE400S. Glorious midrange and very musical headphones, Also worth a look. I would say the HD6XX are warmer than the HE400S, the 400S being fairly neutral overall, with some bass rolloff but not so much that it gets in the way of the music..

What sources or headphone amplifier will you be plugging the headphones into?
In what way do you want to improve audio quality or is there anything you do not like about the sound of the HD598?
I would assume the HD6XX is better for music, over the HD598.

I dont have one yet but it will be the bottlehead crack, I love the 598s and sennheiser sound in general, but just want something slightly different which led me to the 6xx(s)
Oh and i mostly listen to older music mostly beetles,a lot of sam cooke , bit of frankie valli, the drifters other stuff along those lines

So are you currently loving the 598s with the Crack amp?

The Crack will really make the 6XX sing, OTL amps, particularly with high output impedance as the Crack, really do better with high impedance cans, than with low impedance headphones like planars, and particularly with the HD 6XX.

You might think of getting the bottleneck Crack (with Speedball?) first, it might (and should?) give the HD598 more bass and more energy.
This gives you more time to read up on the HD6XX and read up on other headphones, before deciding on what will be the best upgrade, from the HD598.
