I recently bought the hd650 together with the x-can v3 amp. Now i am looking into updating my source component.

I have the marantz cd67 se at the moment, but as i understand it is not up to par with newer cd-players especially with regards to the digital to analogue conversion.

Now i would like to have some advice as to what would give be best results with regards to sound quality;
I was thinking of either buying the x-dac v3 or the benchmark dac-1 and keeping the marantz as a transport. Or to buy a new cdp like the rega apollo.
To be able to connect my computer with the dac is nice but not very important to me. My priority is with getting the best sound out of my cd-collection.
What would be your advice?

Do a search on Monarchy, or M24 on the various forums - you'll find some interesting comments regarding this DAC with both the XCAN v3 and GL driving the HD650's.

Also go to the www.monarchyaudio.com site and read all the reviews.

I doubt that any DAC amp combo driving the HD650s' will sound much better - it really transformed mine.

Of course you'll probably need the PSU with either of these amps to achieve the best sound. And... I've got the X10 v3 tube buffer as well.

But... this combo does produce exceptional sound from the HD650's, or any other phones. It's just that the HD650's sound too slow and dark with most everything else.

Of course you might find you'll achieve better sound, with less investment, with the HD600's, or perhaps the SR225's.

Have you looked at the Linn Unidisk SC? I am not sure how much the Marantz costs, but they are very good.
