Best source for under $1000?

I'd be wary of that one. The seller doesn't seem to know what he's talking about, as evidenced by "RCA Victor" in the title (RCA did not merge with Victor for several more decades) and a record on the platter from the electrical playback era that would be destroyed by an acoustic machine.

MMF-7 or similar turntable is best under 1K!

Your on the right track with vinyl, might not want to go that far into vintage though

I like listening to records more than CD. Scan audiogon for VPI, Music Hall etc. Good deals to be had. Don't forget with vinyl you'll need a phono stage.

This may be very rediculous but I think the iPod is the best source for under 1000. It is small and can hold all the songs you want it to. It has extremely high quality sound except for the fact ti ships with the worst headphones in the world. There are probably better sources but this one just seems to shine over others.

Well, the consensus seems to be around here that the Jolida JD-100A, the Philips 963SA, and the Music Hall MMF-CD25 would all make far better sources than the pod, and they are all under $1000.

But perhaps the pod really can compete with a Victrola Grammophone. I doubt if anyone has done a side to side listening test with those two sources.
