Best Song Parodies:

The obvious Weird Al stuff is always funny.

On a more subtle note, Monty Python songs are great. One compilation of these (spoofing the Beatles) is --The Rutles--.

Yeah, Weird Al has the best parody stuff out there:

Fat [Michael Jackson - Bad]
Eat It [Michael Jackson - Beat It]
Like a Surgeon [Madonna - Like a Virgin]
I Love Rocky Road [Joan Jett - I Love Rock n Roll]
Smells Like Nirvana [Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit]
The Brady Bunch [Men Without Hats - The Safety Dance]
Dare To Be Stupid [???sounds like DEVO]
Amish Paradise [Coolio - Gangsta's Paradise] --- my fave

some of the 'worst covers' in that other thread are unintentional parodies that backfired

i also like monty python's musical work (mostly eric idle as far as i know - i read that he's writing and will be producing a broadway musical based on the pythons' medieval coconut epic - it'll be called 'spamalot'...)

weird al is great, teen spirit and amish paradise especially.

but my favorite parody ever was john belushi imitating joe cocker live on stage (i think it was an early saturday night live show). his voice, his movements... in comparison weird al has always been VERY nice to michael jackson.

Before I follow any of the links posted in this thread, I will mention one that I heard on the radio over 10 years ago on trip to Boise Idaho. I didn't catch the name of the song, but it was about butt cracks and done to the tune of the Love Shack song by the B-52's that was popular at that time. I never did hear that song again. I don't know who did it, or anything about it. It was hilarious though. It's odd that I still remember it after all these years.

Weird Al has a ton of stuff which is very funny but my favourite is "Piece of crap Car" by Adam Sandler. It's not a parody of a specific song but rather a parody of Reggae in general. There was also a local radio personality who years ago used to do hysterical parodies live on air at a local radio station. "Bugs in My Pocket" (Drugs in My Pocket) and "Another One Rides the Bus" ( Another One Bites the Dust) still stick in my mind 20 years later.

"another one rides the bus", recorded by weird al in a bathroom with an accordian and someone banging on his accordian case for drums. as featured on dr. demento's radio show 20+ years ago.
the window doesn't open and the fan is broke and my face is turning blue!

So weird Al originally did "Another One Rides the Bus". The guy I'm thinking of and who used to do it on air in Toronto called himself "Whodat Singher" and sounded like Apu on the Simpsons.

I'm not sure who does it, but the Bill Clinton version of Mambo number 5 cracks me up. The part about " I hope ol' pumpkin legs doesn't find out" makes me laugh. She must really like that song.
