Hi everyone,

Now that I've got a decent pcdp, headphone amp, and headphones, I'm ready to sample the best sounding CD's. I've read lots about poorly recorded CD's. So to calibrate my ears, what are the best pop/rock CD's in regards to quality of recording?

Thanks...

Bill

Get Crash Test Dummies' "God Shuffled His Feet" for a start. You will be very impressed with the sound engineering.

What, so many posts and you haven't yet? Shame on you, andrzejpw.

Run to get it, it is very well engineered. In fact, it doesn't matter if you like the Dummies music, it's ear candy anyway and pretty good to audition high-end headphones.

PS: I've made a few home-made "demo" CDs that I use to test headphones. I've noticed that my friends are particularly impressed when listening to these.

Here is the track list of one of those...

01.Dave Matthews Band / Stay (Before These Crowded Streets)05:35
02.Crash Test Dummies / I Think I'll Disappear Now (God Shuffled His Feet)04:52
03.Montserrat Figueras / No Piense Menguilla Ya (Harmony Universelle)06:10
04.The Coryells / Goodbye Porkpie Hat (Chesky2K Sampler)02:09
05.Dave's True Story / Daddy-O (Sex Without Bodies)03:20
06.This Mortal Coil- / You and your Sister (Blood)03:16
07.Cowboy Junkies- / Sweet Jane (The Trinity Session)03:34
08.Ana Caran / Africando (Chesky2K Sampler)03:44
09.Sheryl Crow / There goes the neighborhood (The Globe Sessions)05:01
10.Paquito D'Rivera / Chucho (Chesky2K Sampler)03:31
11.The Corrs / So young (Unplugged)04:53
12.Gloria Stefan / Tradicion (Mi Tierra)05:21
13.Dave Holland Quintet / Jugglers Parade (Prime Directive)08:14
14.The Corrs / The Right Time (Forgiven, Not Forgotten)04:07
15.Radiohead / No Surprises (OK Computer)03:48
16.The Corrs / Erin Shore (Forgiven, Not Forgotten)04:14
17.Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard / The Might of Rome (Gladiator OST)05:18
18.Rammstein / Eifersusucht (Sehnsucht)03:37

If you have any of these albuns, check out those tracks. If not, well, consider getting them... all are great CDs (I'm talking about sound engineering quality, not really the music style)

Beowolf, nice list. I own several of the songs on that list in CD format. Right now I'm going to check out some of those songs - especially the Crash Test Dummies one as you especially recommend it.

I have the worst possible front-end (Sonly CD Walkman D-EJ621) and one of the cheapest amps available (Airhead 4.5v + 4.5v-9v-12v Radio Shack powersupply), but nice cans - Beyer DT250-80. I'm considering upgrading to a decent $200 front end.

Cheers,
Geek

Einsturzende Neubauten's Silence is Sexy has been getting a lot of time in my system lately.
