I heard that you could get the E.A.R. HP4 overseas for a good price? Any ideas? A friend is ampless and if the HP4 can be found at a good price I think he could be talked into getting it. Which would enable me to hear it. Hey what are friends for?

Any suggestions, recommendations or experience would be greatly appreciated.

Also if you have any tips, warnings or other relevant pointers about the HP4 please share them. Even tube recommendations would be great so I can get him a set of tubes as incentive. Yeah some people will do anything to hear a great amplifier.

Consider this an HP4 buyer’s guide.

Thanks

Mitch

www.stoneaudio.co.uk sells the HP4 for under $2700 new. I have never bought from them, and can't say how reliable they are.

For tube suggestions, see the EAR HP4 tube rolling thread

If he doesn't mind buying used, there are ones for sale every now and again for about $1500, or 1000 British pounds. I saw a couple for sale recently, and one guy was still selling his in Britain for the 1000 pounds. Do a search in the for sale section on HP4 and see what you come up with.

They do run on 220v though, so if they're run here you'll have to mod the transformer like Hirsch did to run on 115v.
