Does anyone have an opinion on the best CD version of Dark Side of the Moon? I'm looking for one that has the best tonal balance, similar to the original UK LP pressings. No compression or limiting, please!

So how do you tell what you are getting? Is the info on the jewel case?

I'm not sure about DSOTM. Some of my MFSL disc cases say Ultra Disc 2 and some just say Ultra Disc (UD 2).

The Ultra Disc 1 are from the earlier and supposedly higher quality Japan production. The DSOTM UD1 is OOP and pretty expensive if and when you can find one.

P.S. I just make due with the standard U.S. remaster. I would guess that any digital version will not be as good as an original vinyl release.

I own a 1992 ltd. release of DSOTM, which came in a black cardboard box with additional artwork, photos, lyrics etc. The special thing about the metallic layer of the CD was Beryllium, applied in a painstaking process, as I understand, and it sounds very good. Just last week I compared it to my old vinyl pressing that I cleaned with a record cleaning machine, and although the result of that comparison was clearly in favor of the vinyl, the CD sound was not as bad as I expected.

The recent SACD release of DSOtM has an outstanding redbook layer. I haven't heard the MoFi version, but I've read several different reviews that claim the redbook on the SACD is superior to any other cd version the reviewers had heard, including the MoFi discs.
