Best portable tube amp, or almost tube sound amp on the market?

I'm thinking about getting a portable amp, let's say small enough to be brought along with an ipod when travelling and battery driven.

I already have a tube amp for home use so I'm a bit worried about getting a solid state amp that will sound harsh/aggressive in the highs and I really like the liquid/lush mids that a tube amp produces.

The only portable amp I ever heard was the Grado, it was ok but nothing very special, I much prefer my tube amp.

The Ray Samuel SR-71 seems highly regarded here but are there any others that would have better "tube" qualities or even better that would be tube based?

Thanks for your help.

However you could easily build one that runs on a single 9v battery:

that sucker is pretty neat, but there is no way in hell you could get me to put that in my pocket when it's turned on!

No rush, I'm willing to wait but where do you get the info for this Hornet, are there already specs or product description? Thanks.

Well that is very funny but very interesting at the same time! Wonder if anybody that speaks English has built it yet? Thanks for the link...

i've built a similar circuit, but havent been able to fit it inside a mint tin with a battery. the tube doesnt get hot at all, just slightly warm.

here is the circuit i built:

I'd be too nervous to crush the tube or something. Idk lugging a tube amp in the pocket seems a little far fetched IMO

I always told Ray to do a portable tube amp..lol

it would be cool to have a flip up option, as you lay the amp down and the tube can flip out of the casing so it looks like a home amp with exposed tube....then again it would be pretty useless..oh well

I like the pic in the link....thats awesome, I wanna hear one...or better yet have one in my Jacuzzi!!!!!!lol

and btw doesnt Single power have a 12volt tube amp?...just carry around a car batt with you....j/k j/k

Nothing official yet, but if you go the recent NY meet impressions thread, there are some pictures (prototype), and some brief comments.
