I've only had experience with a few of the portable options on the market but I've always had a soft spot for the RA-1 when paired with the RS-1 so you might be best off sticking with that.

I'd check out the Tomahawk or the HeadSix.

Buy the battery powered RA-1? Seriously, no portable amp can deliver the type of performance necessary to bring out the best in RS-1's; you'll be cheating yourself if you sacrifice sound quality for ease of mobility.

You can try EMP with some good tubes for the RS1. It's really a small but nice amp.

Since when is the EMP portable?

I love the combo of my RS-2's and my RSA Tomahawk, A+ for tight punchy bass, and controlled smooth highs.

I use the Tomahawk with my RS-1's and love the combo. Bass tight but full, mids real creamy, and the high end precise and bright but not grainy. Many people on the #6 subway line in New York City have seen me with my eyes closed in audio rapture
