I've been using my RE0 for 3 weeks now, running them unamped from my new iPod classic, and I really like them. However from what I've read the sound can be greatly improved with an amp. Now I don't want an expensive amp just yet, and I don't want one of those bulky ones, what I want is a portable amp that can fit into my jeans' pockets together with my iPod, earphones, wallet and car keys.

I also do not want to sacrifice any of the RE0 treble and detail, while looking most to improve the soundstage and make the bass tighter and punchier.

So what are my choices? And if you could do so, please quote approximate prices just so that I know what I'm dealing with.

Thank you.

+1. I love my RE0s, I'm really interested an any relatively inexpensive amp that really makes them sound good.

As a side question, do amps really make that big of a difference? I'm worried I might not hear it.

If your source is up to snuff (including quality files), then yes, IMO, they do.

I have been using an Ibasso t3 with my er4s's ( maybe a bit linked sonically). To say I'm happy is an understatement. I cannot believe the sound this little guy puts forth. Good luck with your decision

Haha, damn, so $100 and above is what I'm dealing with here? Aren't there any worthwhile amps for like $50?

I gotta save up for a while more then. lol

Not necessarily. There are some very capable CMOY amps available for around that price.

I got a T3 and I like it with my re0's. It definitely does tighten up the bass, make it punchier, and added instrument separation. I've used them with a fiio e5 and while a good amp for the price (like $20) the T3 ($140 shipped) is much better.

How much do you want to spend? I know you can get a used mini3 for less than $100 on the portable amp sale section too but I can't comment on the sound.

I dont really have a budget just yet. I'm just trying to know my options and make my mind later on. If it's cheap (like around $30 to 40) I might buy it soon, but if I need to spend more to get something more worthy I will have to wait for a while. Plus I live in Malaysia so you have to factor in the exchange rate and shipping rates.

I see that your portable setup does not include the Ibasso. Is it too large?

Also, the CMOY with the peppermint tincase looks quite funky actually haha. Which of the CMOY amps should I choose? I don't want more bass as in quantity but if it could be tightened up a bit and be punchier that would be nice. But I definitely dont want to sacrifice any treble or detail, and my main priority is soundstage depth.

No there aren't good amps for $50. Either get yourself a FiiO e3/e5 or save up and buy a real one (maybe with a DAC if you don't already have something for your computer.)

Fiio E5 wasnt that great really. From what I remember it added some low end but at a cost of distortion. I would save up a bit and once you are around 100+ and in the meantime you can do some more research on which amp you want. Then when you do have the budget you can look up the FS threads to see if there are any good deals for amps that you are interested in.
