I am looking to get a less microphonic ultra-short cable for my ER4XR.
I like to keep cables short for clean up and use extension cords since I always find the cable either too short or too long anyways.
I want to try and keep the price under 150$ if possible.

I am having a hard time finding a good place though, and I can't find many recommendations either. I'm starting to wonder if it wouldn't be easier to learn how to make cables myself, but have a hard time finding resources for that too. Could anyone recommend a good custom cable maker within my budget, or to some resources for making the cable I want?

Also, what kind of risks are involved with making a cable? Could bad wiring damage the IEM or the source? Do cheaper materials degrade the sound?

Sorry for all the questions, I am just completely lost.

Yeah I agree making your own cables is easy. There is a ton of useful information and resources in the DIY section of the forums. Also if you rather just buy cables, I have often found good deals on EBay. Also don't worry too much about buying super expensive materials or cables. I make my cables with 26awg cooper speaker wires and I can't tell a difference between that and some of my fancy silver plated cooper wires. I do spend a most of my build money on quality connectors. Just try not to get sucked into the expensive cable hole.

You can read thru this thread and see what you think.

I have ordered from Peterek before and he does very nice work, but he isnt cheap, doesnt work fast and Im not even sure how often he does custom work anymore.
He made me a custom silver/copper hybrid cable for my HE-6 terminated in speaker wire and included a couple things that I didnt ask for free of charge, but it took almost three months and cost close to $200.00

Making your own cable is not all that hard. Here is a good place to start. https://www.head-fi.org/threads/diy-cable-questions-and-comments-thread.676402/

Thanks for the link. I started looking at the first few pages. I am mostly afraid of messing up the earphone with a mistake hooking up the cable. If there is no possibility of explosion, I am all for going the DIY route. I only ever soldered twice, and the second time was to fix the horrible job I did the first time.

I might practice on a jack-extension and plug in one of my chi-fi buds to test it...

I got a quote from a local cable maker, and it is a little more than I was hoping to pay. They did explain a lot of what I needed for my project though, which was very nice. I will look for cable supplies I can get within Japan.
