It depends on the amount of EMI/RFI in your environment and the rest of your system. PS Audio has the best shielding which will give a black background while sacrificing resolution, they are a great bargain!

I had all three types in my system. PS Audio is the best for amps and pre-amps. I also liked Magic form Signal better than LAT.

I use Audience on my cd player because of the synergy as I use audience xlr from cd to pre-amp.

Best for the money? Volex. Easily my favourite under $350USD. That's saying a lot when a $6 PC bests some highly regarded $300 PCs

Yeah, the Volex 17604 (www.Carlton-Bates.com) seems to be the budget favorite. I'll also toss in a vote for the offerings at SignalCable. Great power cables that are built solid for reasonable prices.
