Thought I would start a thread where people can list their favorite tubes by sound quality. Reliability is important too, so if you have had any issues with your favorite tube please note. Main reason I am starting this thread is I would like to see what tubes are preferred within a certain tube group or application. Many amplifiers will give you tube options for certain tube slots. This will be a general starting point for the tube groups. Some brand names will be very similar. In other words, Philips owned Amperex (since 1953) and Mullard (since 1927) so parts, materials and construction tend to be very similar. On the other hand a Philips Holland made tube and Philips Germany made tube can be very different. Anyone knowledgeable can help group along the way. If many people are willing this thread will give an idea of what tube build (whether it be american, western european, eastern european, etc.) are preferred for a certain application. With enough responses this information will be every beneficial to amplifier builders. I will start things off with the following group: "7119/E182CC, 5687". You can list other numbers as long as they are a substitute for this type of tube without any modifications. After a general favorite is found we can start another tube group. I will start with my favorite.

1. Philips 7119/E182CC made in Holland.

I thought I better stress on the general part. The tubes in this group will not all have identical specs and one or the other could sound better because the circuit is more suited to it. I am just hoping that there are many owners of multiple amps or amps built with tube rollers in mind to find these favorites. Might have been better to start with an output stage tube where less circuit design is required.
