I don't know why, but I didn't expect much from that album. But the first two listens were rather enjoyable. Pleasant surprise.

You guys are giving me a formidable shopping list.

How is it I've never heard of Porcupine Tree and yet so many of you
have it listed at or near the top?

I will have to order it as there isn't a decent music store within 100 miles
of me.

Oh boy, do you have some shopping to do. PT are outstanding. Steve Wilson is a genius. While you are at it, throw in their DVD "Arriveing Somewhere..." They are an amazing group of musicians. Cannot recommend them enough.

Ill officially add The New Pornographers - Challengers to the list of great albums. Only one spin so far. Its a bit more subdued than past efforts, but Neko Case can sing harmony on anything and make it sound amazing.

This has a chance to be my favorite New Pornos record.

This thread is very rock heavy. For people like me who are a little tired of rock, here are some good electronic/other albums I've heard. Maybe someone else can jump in to help people like me discover some different music.

8-Bit Operators - "The Music of Kraftwerk" - Exactly as the title implies. Here, we have a collection of Nintendo takes on Kraftwerk songs. There's a certain novelity to the approach. However one can also appreciate how Kraftwerk song writing is good enough to stand up even under a lo-fi veneer.

Achillea - "Amada Estrelles" - Jens Had has worked with Enigma so to give one an idea of the musical basis here. This album has more of a world feel than any Enigma effort which imo makes it more interesting and varied.

Parallel Worlds - "Obsessive Surrealism" - This is mostly downtempo, ambient electronica with electro outbursts. It's groovy enough to write a paper to while experimental enough to listen intently. This one won't sway any non-electonica fans, but enthusiasts will find plenty to like.

Pink Martini - "Hey Eugene" - How does one describe Pink Martini a little world, a little arabic, hell a little of everything. There's a Vegas lounge feel to their music without the free ****tails. Who know how describe this band. It doesn't matter because once the music settles in, it's very rewarding and interesting. There are plenty of reviews that sum up their sound better than I can.

Tayo - "Fabriclive.32" - Fabric Live is a DJ mix series from the renowned Club Fabric in London. The series as a whole is excellent. Tayo offers some great mashup on this release - very hard hitting with a-lot Reggae and Dub flavor. F.31 from the glimmers is also fantastic if one is searching for a more indie electronic feel from their DJ mix set.

I still have to listen to this, and I'm not sure I'm going to like the sound of a subdued New ***** album. I really think they are at their best with Neko singing on very upbeat songs.

Blackfield - Blackfield II
PoS - Scarsick
Porcupine Tree - Fear Of A Blank Planet
Nine Inch Nails - Year Zero
Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos

Oh man, I thought the "People" EP was what was meant when I heard they had a new album coming out this year. That's great news to me, thanks. I haven't been able to get enough of "Spirit they're gone, Spirit they've vanished" lately.
