I want the best non vintage PCDP; why? because i need something more portable, something with anti-skip (g-protection for sony).

Which of the newer CD players has the best SQ? I really do not know what to choose between; ive heard so many mixed reviews.

i was thinking between these sony's; d-ne20, d-ne10, d-ne920 (sp?), d-ej2000.

The d-ne20 is a stellar looking and extremely well built PCDP but apparently the SQ isnt great but still good (bit more than tolerable lol). I'm not sure about the others though.

I don't know alot about other brands either, but i believe sonys PCDP's are made to a pretty decent standard.

What reccomendations can i get from you guys? Which of the sony's do you think is te best for SQ, how would you rank them; and also what about other brands; how do they rank and perform with certain models ?

Cheers, JJZ.

There are vintage PCDP's that have antiskip (sort of). I own 2 of these players. The Philips AZ6831 (or some others of the family) uses 'Digital Servo Processing', so when the players bumps onto an object, it will skip, but immediately retain place, a very fast technique I can tell you. The other one, the Sony D465 has 20 sec. antiskip, without SQ degredation, it just uses a big memorybuffer. I don't recommend swinging it around cause in the end it will skip, believe me. Both players can be found for under $50.

If you are looking for a completely new PCDP, I can't really help you. I do have a recent Awai XP ZV551 (Sony) player, it has awesome antiskip, and SQ is decent (has no line out though).

Be sure to think of the possible fact that the price of the high-end Sony PCDP won't be justified. If SQ is your main concern, you could lose a lot of money. Sure they are thin, play MP3, etc. etc. but for pure SQ you'd need to buy the best of the best, and be able to compare it to a great vintage that has antiskip (for example to two mentioned above). Hope this helps.

I have and like the SQ of the Sony D-NE10. I tend to think that the sound of it is somewhat hampered by using tantalum headphone output capacitors but, in my view, it still sounds quite good.

For ultimate, vintage sound I'm partial to the Sony D-555, however if one finds an iRiver IMP-350 (cheap) the sound may be quite pleasing enough.

My Panasonic CT-579V is really decent for a PCDP, it's more on the budget side of PCDPs at ~$50 online. I'd think the next step up would be the iRiver IMP series, like the IMP-350, IMP-400, IMP550. They sometimes show up on iRiver's online store in the Clearance/Outlet section.

I own the Iriver IMP900, almost impossible to find. I remember I read somewhere in the forum that the Bose CD player was actually pretty good, unlike the rest of their inventory.
