Thanks for all the help folks..my friend has bought the Sansa Clip. She was wowed by the form factor and price. I am certainly wowed by the SQ.

Drag and drop works effortlessly and the shuffle function works way better than on my D2...

x2 Full and uncorrupted ogg Vorbis support gives you lossless-like quality (Q10 encoded with aoTuV/Lancer), great radio reception, 6GB, UMS transfer, file browser (as an alternative for tag-based music playback support), TV remote control feature (no joke here). Sony's and Cowon's haven't reached the E10's SQ so far, IMHO. At least those I tried.

I recently picked up a refurb'ed Sansa e260 (4 GB) for about $50. Lo and behold, it was a version 1, so I immediately loaded Rockbox, which plays my Ogg files beautifully. I use the Xiph encoder with -q 4; it's far more space-efficient than MP3 for a given quality level, IMO.

The only real glitch is that the stock firmware doesn't like MicroSDHC cards, so I have to fill up the expansion card using an external reader. Rockbox handles the MicroSDHC just fine, though, and I'm hoping that it will soon do USB so I don't have to boot into the stock firmware.

Sony NWZ-B100 or NWZ-A720 series-both should be less than $99.
