Which program is the best to download Mp3's? I am looking for a the best one that has a large amount of 256-320kbps mp3's (like WinMX use to).

WinMX still has the, at high quality--but it seems like everything is like 60 Queue or 100 Queued.

Does anyone know a program as good as WinMX use to be (in terms of finding large around of 256-320kbps mp3's?)?

any help would be great..thanks

How are you supposed to evaluate how many 256-320 kbps songs there are available using different MP3 programs? It all depends on who's connected to the servers. They could be there one minute, and gone the next.

Obviously when you use more popular programs, there will be more users and hopefully more users with higher bitrate files, but as you can see, a more popular program also means that there are more people trying to get these files (i.e. long queues).

I'm sure there are less popular programs, with small queues, but really...how would a generalization like "program x has higher bitrate files than program y" work? There are too many fluctuating variables.

Not the most helpful of posts, but I'm a bit stumped by your logic here.

I personally find Direct Connect pretty good, but you need a lot of files on your HD before must 'hubs' grant you access

my advice: whenever attempting to use these flaming pieces of crap, make sure to scan your hard drives with adaware after install. they're all filled with spyware crap. unless of course, you don't care..

buy cds and make your own mp3s. it's worth it, i swear.

This statment is false and uninformed. While there are many reasons to disaprove of file-sharing, this is not one of them. Please do some research before making broad generalizations like this. Start by looking at programs like Kazaa Lite and DC++.

kazaa lite was made as a result of regular kazaa being HORRIBLE with adware.

Same thing with bearshare.

Personally, I use winMX and dc++

Get DC++. If you find a good hub you'll find well-encoded mp3s or even SHN and MPC files (losssless compression).

Check the link I posted. They are a network of folks who only rip with Exact Audio Copy, and document everything completely, so the quality is supposed to be leagues above all the other crap most MP3 traders have in the P2P networks.

I believe they use Direct Connect to trade.

It's worth a look for folks looking for quality MP3s--of course whether or not suitable quality can be achieved with ANY mp3 is open to debate.

all a matter of opinion. these programs are crap on top of crap. how can you say that i am making broad generalizations and then recommend a warez-cracked program?

they are for consumer scum with no ear for anything, let alone quality. everytime i try and use one of these programs, it is nothing but a huge disappointment. all the mp3s i try and download are full of skips or encoded at 96kbps. worthless waste of time.

so i make my own mp3s. each directory is labeled as: artist - album / artist - ## - title.mp3

all mp3s encoded with lame --alt-preset extreme. the quality is worth it and all of them are ripped from the purchased albums. people pushing these programs are the reason why we do not benefit from new technology. they spend half of the time developing something new, then the rest of the time developing a copy-protection scheme for it. i hate it, i am sick of it. the day i end up buying an album that i can't view in my pc, i am really going to flip out.

i've said it once and i'll say it again: napster ruined the world !

Try looking into newsgroups if you have broadband, there must be tons of mp3 groups with well encoded mp3's or lossless schemes, like ape or shn.

I think this has been covered many times in the past and this thread has no place on Head-Fi. No matter how much you delude yourself and try to legitimize it downloading of most MP3's is stealing. I believe the discussion of how to steal copyrighted works either software or music has no place here.
