Best mass market company headphone?

just curious what is the best mass market company i.e. sony, jvc, panasonic, philips etc. i kno jvc makes a serious headphone. but just curious.

You mean you want to buy it at Circuit City and it better have a name on it that matches something your friends have or something?

Your friends have never heard of AKG but their parent company - Harman International - is very big indeed. Just not so big of a name.

Generally speaking, you get that "big name" by pandering to the lowest common denominator, which absolutely requires that you sell mediocre products.

Sony, Easy.. R10/Q10/SA5000.. JVC 2nd.. Philips & panasonic makes headphones..

well i know Bose is crap. i know that JVC makes one of the best phones on the market right now. the other posts just aren't helpful.

no i don't mean going into circuit city i mean a big name company making a Hi-Fi audiophile headphone. who makes the best one? you can't buy hi-fi headphones in circuit city or best buy.

it's like trying to answer what's the best headphone?
even sennheiser makes cheap, overpriced headphone for the masses, so I think you asked a question that doesn't have an answer.
Sony makes great products, but not so great products as well like V700, etc.

Sennheiser, AKG, Sony, Ultimate ears, BeyerDynamic, Audio technica, Ultrasone, Shure, etc are all big-names for head-fi community. For the masses, they think bose, sony, JVC, panasonic, phillips are considered to be big brands because it's available at local best buy.

If you're looking for best headphone in the world, well, there hasn't been one yet - all headphones have strengths and weaknesses, it's just a matter of which one suits your ear.

None of the top tier, most recognized brands make a true audiophile headphone currently.

JVC is 2nd tier at best for the US market. They make audiophile headphones but they don't officially export them to the US. You can get them here, but i imagine warranty service is hard to come by.

Current production? The Sony MDR-SA5000 is a terrific headphone. You won't find it at Best Buy, however.

Also, it depends what you mean by "big name." Sennheiser, Beyerdynamic and AKG are very well known among musicians because they also make microphones.
