This has been much debated before I'm sure, but I thought it might be a good time to bring it up again. Which portable CD player has the best quality Line Out port for use with a portable amp?

It should be a relatively current model, or at least one that is relatively easily acquired.

Sony D311

In the more real (accessable) world... try looking out for a D777 or for deskbound, a D5... with the mains adapter bolted onto the back of the D5, the player has RCA jacks... the only Discman i've ever known to have that

The D-14 also comes with that adapter with the built in line-out to RCA adapter. Cosmetically, the D-14 is basically the same beast...might be interesting to check on what the actual difference is between them. The D-5 was released first, as I recall, but the differences beyond that are unknown to me...

Are you sure the D5 qualifies as "relatively current model"?

@insomniac, do you need a true portable (reasonable battery life, antishock, lightweight etc.) or will 'transportable' do...

Search in this forum for Sony D-FJ401 which have had quite a few good comments for a fairly new pcdp (last year's model). It's also one of fixup's favorite pcdp, look at www.fixup.net . Did I mention it's cheap too?

hehe, I catch you out on a technicality...

Sure, the D5 is as old as they come, so not relatively current, but I was going on the second part of that sentence... Quote:

I think the D5 comes up quite a bit on Ebay
