I have audio technica athm50s but I'm looking for something with a little more feel to it. Specifically, I want to hear every little detail in the music. I listen to almost every genre so something close to a flat eq would be preferred. Must fit around ears. $300 budget with a little flex. I was thinking about AKG K701s. Advice?

I would pick the DT880 over the K701, although the latter isn't bad either. You're on the right track with the K701, I just prefer the DT880 and find it a little flatter sounding overall, since the K701 seems to have more of a dip in the mids. The HD-650 needs a real powerhouse amp (preferably balanced) and driven at higher volumes to get the best detail retrieval it's capable of, so I'd recommend these other alternatives for what you're looking for. Since you brought up the K701, I can guess you don't *need* closed 'phones, so at this price range I would recommend sticking to open phones to maximize bang for the buck.

Sennheiser's HD 600 and its HD 650 present an easy-to-drive load. They can be driven very well with the FiiO E5 and to their full capacity with (for example) the O2. There's not a bit of truth in the audiophile myth that they're "picky" or require "a real powerhouse amp."

A balanced-line amp offers not even a single benefit for home or office users. Balanced lines are designed for noise rejection in EMI-saturated environments like studios and rock-concert stages.

One person said that they missed their Mad Dogs after listening to the M100s. Other than that, I can't find a good comparison because the Mad Dogs aren't mass produced.
