So as of now I have a pair of Sennheiser HD202's and Shure SCL2's to go along with my Zune 80. I find that the Sennheiser's have a warmer feel to them but lack detail. My Shure's on the other hand seem to be very detailed yet they lack depth and sound rather flat. While these headphones are listenable I am definitely looking for something more.

I've been researching for quite some time on these boards for a new pair that will sound best with my Zune 80. So far I have found three potential purchases. The Grado SR-60, Audio Technica ATH-AD700, and the Sennheiser HD-555.

Basically I would like to know which of these would sound best to go along with a Zune 80 as a source (or any other headphones that are under $150). I am looking for a warm and rich sound if that makes any sense.

And if the type of music that I listen to matters here is a list of some of my favorite artists.

King Crimson
Buckethead
Porcupine Tree
Riverside
Sigur Ros
A Silver Mt Zion
God Is An Astronaut

Mostly Progressive Rock and Post Rock, but I have a pretty open mind when it comes to music. Any input is much appreciated!

Grado is considered the king of rock by most, and the SR-60 is very good quality for very low price. Could try to find sr225 used or something as well if you wanted. They are easy to drive.

Sennheiser headphones, in general, have a warmer house sound, much like you described with your hd202. Grados are pretty much at the opposite end of the spectrum as they are brighter and "punchier." In addition, back when I had a sr225, I didn't find them very comfortable at all. They weren't completely unmanageable, but they weren't even close to the comfort of my senn hd650 or denon d2000 (it could just be my big ears though--some people have no problem with the comfort of grados).

From the three cans you picked, I have actually heard only the sr60. I went back and forth between the sr60, sr80, and sr225 and i would say the 225 is easily the warmest of the bunch, though they are all very similar

I have just sold my Grado SR80s because they were so uncomfortable, so uncomfortable that I was unable to form an opinion as to their sound quality, and have just bought some Sennheiser HD555s. Very comfortable and very acceptable sound. I have also ordered a pair of ATH-AD700s, and if you can wait until next Thursday when they arrive I can give you a comparison of them with the Sennheisers.

I'm definitely interested in a comparison. But how would you describe the sound of the HD-555's? And are you using a Zune 80 as your source?

The ATH AD700s have arrived, and I find it frustratingly difficult to find much difference between them and the HD555s (I am not an audiophile!).
Maybe the AD700s have a brighter and more spatial sound, with the HD555s more laid back and smoother.
Both very comfortable, the AD700s apply less pressure to the ears as they just sit on the head.
I do not have a Zune, I listen through a Squeezebox or my computer.
