Hello folks! First of all i want to express my respect to all you audiophiles out there for your knowledge. I registered because i want to buy the best headphones below $600,00, ones that don't need an amp. It's a must for me because of portability. I thought about HD650's and read that i would just hear the noises of my regular mp3's. Then about the PXC450's and read that they're just cheap phones with a brand and noise reduction. AKG 701's requires an amp. People said that Ultrasone's PRO750's are not the best option. Heard that Ultrasone's Edition 9 is not adequate for mp3 players.

PLEASE help me, i want maximum bass and quality for this budget, no amps, no in-ear shure's.

And IF amps are SO good, an amp and headphones that fit my budget.

Sorry for such a long post but i think that's the best place on the Internet to ask this. Thanks a lot for any imput.

im not sure these are the best, but sure worth a look at: Beyerdynamic DT 770/880/990 80 or 32 ohm version. i recommend the 32ohm version. 80ohm being the PRO version, and 32 ohm you have to order it directly through beyerdynamic's manufaktur website: http://www.beyerdynamic.com/cms/Manu...56.0.html?L=1#

DT770 aren't very portable. I personally think it doesn't make sense to spend $600 on headphones if you source is only an mp3 player.

neither are Senn HD650, AKG K701 or the Ultrasone PRO750 the OP mentioned. i think the OP meant "portability" as in not requiring an amp. not portable headphones.

Thanks for your reply arterius, i'm checking them out now. I have to confess though i have a thing for the HD650's, are they really going to sound bad on my Ipod with no amps? If not i'm probably going with them.

yes, hd650 is meant to be driven by an amp. some headphones are available in several impendance versions, low impedance versions are usually targeted at non-amped setup. while high impedance usually are targeted at amped setups. note that i used the word "usually" because as we can see with the AKG K701 thats not always the case. sensitivity is not always directly related to impedance... although most of the cases, they do.

And if my source is only going to be an ipod then AKG K81DJ and KSC75.

Denon D2000 seems to be a pretty strong contender. A great all-rounder with strong bass and easily driven.
