DT770-80
MS2

If youre on a tighter budget K240s-55

Amp them with at least a cmoy or PA2.

If I had ot pick one it'd be the MS2.

Now there's a surprise!

Actually, I've got to agree with you on this one, in the $500 and under catagory. Recabled, of course. I'd go with the Moon Audio Silver Dragon for this type of music, although the Zu is also a good bet.

In a no limits budget, I'd say Grado PS-1.

I would agree on the under $500 the HD650 with the silver dragon is great from music ranging from Opeth to Porcupine Tree and classic prog like King Crimson and Genesis. One thing to note though is that if you get a pair of HD650, is that you do not get the whole deal until the rest of your system catches up so you need to have a strong source and amp to really make them shine. For good prog headphones on a budget I found the MDR-CD3000 to be great for the classics but lacked with some of the heavier new prog because it had very light bass if not driven by a good amp (aka Opeth did not sound as good compared to the HD600 in the same setup). Also comfort should be important because hell its prog and some songs could last a half an hour or more at a time ha-ha. Also if it turns out in the future you need canal phones the Sensaphonics are great for prog on the go

HD590+Equinox cable or SR225 + gilmore v1 +zu gede + 1212m

I owned HD650, PS1, K240DF, DT931 with Headmaster but didn't really feel right for progressive rock/metal

sr325i is good for progressive metal but just too heavy to wear
