best headphones for portable use?

i have 2 choices, the Denon D1001S, and the Grado SR225i. which of the following is better for ipod use without an amp.

Closed (Denon) vs. open (Grado).
Really, the difference is too big between the two. Read some into them. People that will respond here are probably biased.

Unless you don't mind looking like a complete clown with a pair of Grado SR225i in public then the Denon D1001S are a much wiser move if your going portable.

more information needed.. music choices, requirements for isolation (both from the outside world and from your music), etc.

The Grado SR-225 sounds OK on the iPod without an external amp, but it has a long thick cable terminated with a 1/4" plug. Not the best for portable use.

I don't think there is much difference in how well they will do out of an ipod. They will sound very different though.
For portable use you may want to go with the closed option, and maybe look around some more. ES7 is more like a closed Grado and might interest you.
